From George.Virnovsky@irisresearch.no Mon Aug 7 13:03:59 2006 Date: Mon, 7 Aug 2006 13:03:52 +0200 From: George.Virnovsky@irisresearch.no To: Svein M Skjaeveland , hans kleppe-PC Subject: Master oppgave forslag "Simulation of three-phase flow when elliptic regions are present" Elliptic regions are encountered in many commonly accepted relperm models (accept Corey) and in the relperms obtained by large scale averaging/upscalig (see e.g. G. A. Virnovsky, H. M. Helset and S. M. Skjæveland, Stability of displacement fronts in WAG operations, SPE Journal, 1 (1996, SPE 28622)) . If gravity is included then the elliptic regions are difficult to avoid even with the Corey model. Hence, it looks unreasonable to try to "correct" the relperms with the aim of making the simulatin easier as prpoposed by Juanes and Patzek. Instead one has to understand better the problem and try to solve the difficulties encountered. the aim is to deliniate the difficulties, and to investigate, in particular, the role of capillary pressure by way of numerical experiments using Eclipse. Dette kommer som en naturlig fortsettelse av mastergrad avhandlig av Ahmed.
