Kjersti Engan - Biography

Kjersti Engan was born in Bergen, Norway, in 1971. I received the Ing. (B.E.) degree in electrical engineering from Bergen University College in 1994 and the Siv.Ing. (M.Sc.) and Dr.Ing. (Ph.D.) degrees in 1996 and 2000 respectively, both in electrical engineering from the University of Stavanger, Stavanger, Norway.  I am currently a full professor with the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at University of Stavanger (UiS), Norway.  Link to my UiS page  .

I am a part of the Biomedical data analysis lab - BMDLab -  at UiS.

My research interests are in signal and image processing, and especially:

- Biomedical signal and image processing, analysis and classification.   I am involved in several projects in collaboration with the local hospital and local companies in areas such as; Analysis, classification and segmentation in Cardiac MR on infarct patients and Brain MRI on dementia patients, analysis and classification on ECG of cardiac arrest patients, analysis and classification on ECG and ventilation signals of newborn

- Sparse signal and image representation, with a special interest in dictionary learning.  The dictionaries can be used for different applications such as compression, denoising and texture classification etc.

I am a senior memmber of IEEE, and a board member of NOBIM (Norwegian Image and Pattern Recognition Society).

I am currently a member of IEEE Image, Video, and Multidimensional Signal Processing Technical Committee (IVMSP), and a Senior Area editor for IEEE signal processing letters.

In the past I have been teaching : Signal compression, signal processing, advanced signal processing, digital design, mathematics (undergraduate), circuits and systems, advanced control theory with robotics

For the moment I am teaching image processing, and advanced signal processing.
