The paper considers efficient digital filter banks for satellite transponder payloads and ground earth-stations' front end in existing and planned satellite communication systems. The interesting designs are based on the polyphase DFT approach for satellite transponder payload designs, and the non-uniform parallel approach for ground earth-station front end designs. Recursive filters, which are based on digital allpass filters as building blocks, are introduced. These have very low computational complexity, and internal signals and filter coefficients may be represented with relatively few bits. Furthermore, they may be designed with approximately linear passband phase response. Moreover, the resulting filter banks are well suited for integration on VLSI hardware.
